Huperzine A is considered a potent yet safe nootropic, especially when taken for a limited period (less than 3 months) and following the dosage recommendations of Huperzine A. Benefits and advantages of Huperzine A, especially for brain and memory performance are many, which is why the supplement is popular and more and more users buy Huperzine A.

However, every person reacts differently to medicines and also food supplements. Therefore, side effects can occur when taking Huperzine A, especially if the wrong dosage is used or there are incompatibilities with the active ingredient. These include the following:

- Diarrhoea and nausea

- Excessive sweating

- Loss of appetite

- Urinary urgency

- Dry mouth

- Constipation

- Dizziness

- Sleep disturbances

and, especially in the case of incorrect intake or overdose:

- Vomiting

- Blurred vision and speech

- Restlessness

- Muscle twitching

- Convulsions

- Profuse salivation

- Loss of control over urination

- Slowing of the heart rate

- High blood pressure

If such side effects occur, it is important to stop taking the drug or reduce the frequency, e.g. to a low dose once a week. However, if they persist or are very severe, consult with a professional.

Who is Huperzine A not suitable for?

As there are not enough studies, we cannot recommend taking Huperzine during pregnancy or when breastfeeding. To exclude possible complications, this food supplement is therefore not recommended (unless specifically medically prescribed).

In addition, Huperzine A should not be taken if you have certain pre-existing conditions. These include:

- heart disease

- high blood pressure

- epilepsy

- Stomach ulcers

- lung diseases, such as asthma

- kidney or liver disorders

Huperzine may also interact with certain medicines (e.g. anticonvulsants, beta-blockers, cholinesterase inhibitors, monoamine-oxidase inhibitors). Therefore, if you use prescription drugs, you should always consult your doctor beforehand. Also, no tranquillisers or alcohol should be consumed when taking nootropics.

How to prevent Huperzine side effects?

Huperzine A has immense benefits and advantages. To take full advantage of these and reduce the risk of potential side effects, it is important to follow some precautions. We have summarised these:

Tip 1: Follow dosage recommendations!

Even with nootropics, it is necessary to follow the dosage instructions. Huperzine capsules are easy to dose - they always contain the same dosage. In the case of RawPowders, it is 225 micrograms of pure Huperzine A.

Please follow the instructions for the dosage of Huperzine A.

Tip 2: Wait and see!

Although there is comparatively little active ingredient, in the microgram range, in the capsules, Huperzine A is very potent. It means the effect occurs quickly and directly, without a long habituation phase. For this reason, you should not add more doses. Huperzine A starts to work within a few hours.

Too high a dose can lead to severe side effects.

Tip 3: Observe cyclical intake with breaks!

As described in the blog on Huperzine A dosage, a tolerance can build up in the body if Huperzine A is misused, overdosed or taken for too long. It can also result in withdrawal symptoms. Therefore, breaks in intake are necessary, because the body has to absorb the active substance. Daily intake is not recommended; it is better to take Huperzine A every 3/4 days; take complete breaks of 1 to 2 weeks after taking it for 4 weeks.
