What is kratom used for?

The use of kratom differs depending on the type of plant and the dosage of kratom.

At low doses, kratom has a stimulating effect and gives energy, which is why it is often used during long working hours, especially in Asia. However, caution should be exercised with large amounts as it can be very sedating.

Depending on the dosage and the kratom strain, it can have an energizing or calming, anxiolytic and pain-relieving effect. Prolonged use of kratom has also been reported to cause physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms. After a real hype about kratom, the sale and use of kratom are now increasingly regulated. However, the requirements vary greatly between countries.

What is the difference between the kratom strains?

There are mainly three types of Kratom: green, white and red. Depending on (1) the country in which it is grown, (2) the region of origin and location as well as the nutrient composition of the soil, (3) the strength and effects of the wild plant vary. Most of the imported kratom nowadays comes from Indonesia. Yellow kratom is very rare. The names of the kratom varieties are made up of the growing area (e.g. Sumatra, Borneo, Bali, Maeng Da or Kapuas) or the region and the leaf colour. Depending on the season and harvest, they also have different levels of mitragynine. In general, however, red kratom is more calming and sedating, white kratom is used to combat fatigue and increase energy, and green kratom is somewhere in between: providing energy and relaxation.
